Our last Chance
I recently posted a message regarding the state horse slaughter bills. Today is the last day for any amendments to pass and according to a source from the Human Society it’s ” HIGHLY likely” that a new amendment will be introduced today to LEGALIZE horse slaughter here in our home state. If this were to pass we would be the ONLY US state to allow this to happen. We are already known for being #1 in things not normally one would like to brag about. Would we want to be the only state to allow innocent horses to be killed as well? I think not !! ACT immediately and make that phone call to your Senator.We do have the choice to get this stopped! The minutes are ticking away so please pass this information on to anybody you know who would be willing to help!
Actually, we’d be the only state other than Illinois with a law on the books that limits the choices horse owners can have.
I see this a different way. We have nearly a million horses in Texas. Just like why we have animal shelters for unwanted cats and dogs, there’s going to be a need to care for unwanted horses. The money is not there to do that. Horses are expensive. The plants are federally regulated with inspectors/vets on site. I’d say the best thing is to face reality and let them do their thing with unwanted horses, as long as provisions are in place to be sure that stolen horses don’t end up there too.
Well, I have spent the last few days emailing every horse organization in Texas, most email addresses came back as non-deliverable. Emailed many other animal rescue groups as well, in desperation began phoning local pet stores, shelters to ask people to please phone in. Most people seem really complacent, ‘already done that’, many people dont seem to realize that the people who want to keep the slaughterhouses open will continue to rry what I consider shady tricks in slipping in amendments on other bills. These bills already have a reputation so they are trying to glide by on that reputation. These people arent going to lay down without a big fight. I am just sick over this and searching for any info on the news and web on what happened today. so far nothing is posted, maybe that is a good thing……
